Charles Blenzig is a pianist, composer, arranger, producer, and percussionist. Born in the Bronx, Charles had the good fortune to work with the Gil Evans Orchestra which had a steady Monday Night gig at the now de-funked Sweet Basil Jazz Club.The band featured Hiram Bullock, George Adams, Alex Foster, Mark Eagan, Gil Goldstein, Kenwood Denard, Delmar Brown and Lou Soloff. Blenzig has also worked with Gato Barbieri, Michael Becker, Bill Evans (Saxophone), Larry Coryell, Joe Locke, the Mingus Big Band, Michael Urbaniak, Dennis Chambers, Manolo Badrena, Billy Kilson, Marcus Miller, Will Lee, Mike Stern, Eddie Gomez, Billy Hart, and musical director for singer/song writer Michael Franks since the 90’s.Charles has toured the world including performances in Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Africa, Russia, throughout Europe and he US.Professor Blenzig is on faculty at the Purchase Conservatory of Music. The Jazz Department, headed by Pete Malinverni, has some of New York’s finest musicians who also love to teach ,and pass on an important tradition. Faculty members include John Faddis, Kenny Washington, Todd Coolman, Doug Weiss, Andy LaVerne, Gary Smulyan and Vic Juris.
