Jimmy Wormworth is a seasoned, veteran jazz drummer with a long history and playing credentials with a host of historic jazz figures. Jimmy was born on August 14th, 1937 in Utica, New York. He studied his families collection of Art Tatum trio records which featured Sid Catlett. At age 12 he began to play drums with the All-City Grad School Band and soon began working with local musicians. At age 20 he came to New York under the invitation of arranger Torrie Zito and soon got the gig with Nellie Lutcher with whom he toured the United States. In the years 1958 through 1961 he worked with Lou Donaldson, Phineaus Newborn, Mal Waldron, Sahib Shihab, Babs Gonzalez and then Lambert, Hendricks and Ross.
In the years following he worked with Charles Davis, Lonnie Hillyer, Charles McPherson, Barry Harris, Al Haig, J.R. Monterose and Dizzy Reece.
These days Jimmy keeps a busy working schedule frequently playing at Smalls Jazz Club with Charles Davis, Tardo Hammer, Sacha Perry, Dwayne Clemons and Ari Roland.
