Pianist and composer Bryn Roberts is based in New York City, where he is in demand in a wide variety of musical contexts.
Roberts has performed extensively as a sideman and a leader, appearing regularly in New York's prestigious jazz clubs including the Blue Note, Birdland, Smalls, Mezzrow, the 55 Bar and the Jazz Gallery. An acclaimed composer and bandleader, he has three albums out featuring his own music: his debut "Present Tense", "Ludlow" (featuring Seamus Blake, Drew Gress and Mark Ferber on the Fresh Sound/New Talent label), and his most recent release, “Fables” (featuring Seamus Blake, Orlando le Fleming and Johnathan Blake).
Bryn has toured widely with his own groups including festival, radio, and club appearances across the US, Canada, the UK, and Spain. His most recent tour took him to Japan where he led a trio featuring Rodney Green and Joe Martin in a series of appearances, including a concert for the national broadcaster NHK.
In addition to his work as a leader, Roberts is also an original member of the Nonet led by Grammy nominee Alan Ferber, and has recorded with the group for a series of critically-acclaimed releases: "Scenes From An Exit Row", "The Compass”, "Chamber Songs" and “Roots and Transitions”.
Bryn’s most recent project is a collaboration with the celebrated guitarist Lage Lund. They are longtime colleagues and have been playing together in different situations for over a decade, but have recently begun exploring the freedoms and possibilities of the duo format. Their varied repertoire draws from their wide influences, and includes their own original compositions, standards from the American songbook, and compositions by Brazilian composers. They recently recorded an album together which will be released in 2016.
