Vocalist John Dokes has stepped into the spotlight at the dawn of a revival and new decade of the Big Band era putting a fresh spin on swinging jazz music with veteran bandleader George Gee, and renowned jazz trombonist David Gibson.  He uses his smooth baritone voice to perform in big band and jazz genres. Singing a mixture of blues, ballads, popular songs, and jazz standards, his musical influences include Nat King Cole, Joe Williams, Mark Murphy, Jon Hendricks, Jimmy Rushing and Frank Sinatra.

John released his first project titled John Dokes Sings, George Gee Swings in 2010.  This CD conducted and arranged by trombonist/composer David Gibson, paid tribute to Bird, Bacharat and Basie and featured some of the great Joe Williams classics including All Right, Ok, You Win and Rollem Pete.  The CD also features a rendition of Ornithology with his favorite duet partner Hilary Garder with lyrics written by David Gibson. Their most recent duet of "Baby it's Cold Outside" provided the soundtrack on a commercial for Nautica.  In addition to his developing solo efforts John continues to be featured as part of George Gee's stellar ensemble and can be heard on  "Swing Makes You Happy". He continues to make strides in his storied marketing career that includes stints at Marvel Entertainment, MTV Networks-Viacom and AccuWeather.

Another key player in Dokes’ life and career is 88-year-old Dawn Hampton, sister of Bop trombonist Slide Hampton. She is also a legendary dancer and a former saxophonist/cabaret singer who has taught dance around the globe. Dokes, who met Hampton nearly twenty years ago, says it was she who encouraged him to get behind the mic and sing. These close friends are known for cutting a rug at many of Dokes’ shows.
