Dana Saul is a pianist/composer based in New York City. Growing up in northern New York state, he began piano lessons at age 7 and became serious about improvising shortly thereafter. After relocating to rural Maine during high school, Dana was fortunate to find a mentor in drummer/composer Steve Grover. He honed his craft playing gigs up and down the coast of Maine, and by giving regular solo performances in his small town. Dana attended the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College where he studied both jazz performance and classical composition. While in school, he fostered creative relationships with his peers and studied privately with Hal Galper. Dana moved to New York City in 2013 to get involved in the city's thriving jazz scene. He leads his own groups and works as a sideman in a variety of contexts. He has performed at Smalls, Korzo, Shapeshifter Lab, The Falcon, et al.
