Upcoming Shows
Jack Novotny will be bringing his Quartet into Small's Jazz Club on Saturday, August 12th, 2017 to perform a suite of 4 song called "The Many and The Few", recorded in Cleveland, OH this past January 2017. The suite was a tribute to John Coltrane's "Love Supreme" recording from 1964.
Novotny attended North Texas State University and majored in music composition. He spent 10 years performing with The Eddie Brookshire Quintet which included a recording with the late pianist Kenny Drew Jr. The Brookshire group also included stints with JD Allen, Alan Vizzutti, Mike Wade, Edwin Bayard, etc... Jack composed a body of work in 2011 consisting of 11 original compositions, recorded in Boston, MA with bassist's Jorge Roeder, David Zinno, drummer Steve Langone, and percussionist Jerry Leake called "The Boston Sessions".
In 2014 Novotny wrote and recorded 6 original compositions with The Mark Lomax Trio and called it "Nebulosity". It was dedicated from the inspiration of Ornette Coleman, Charles Mingus, and Eric Dolphy.
This past January 2017, tenor/soprano saxophonist/flutist Novotny collaborated with bassist Juini Booth, pianist Benito Gonzalez, and once again drummer Dr. Mark Lomax II to record "The Many and The Few".
