A native of Vancouver, Washington, Zach Lapidus is a pianist, electronic musician, and composer based in Brooklyn, NY. As a jazz pianist, he has performed with Rich Perry, Caroline Davis, Frank Glover, Slide Hampton, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Wycliffe Gordon, Claudio Roditi, Corey Christiansen, Derrick Gardner, Jon Irabagon, and Bobby Watson, among others. His work as a sound designer and performer on keyboards and modular synthesizer can be heard in the bands and recordings of Corey Christiansen, Jeff Miles, Frank Glover, and Sergej Avenesov.
Prior to his relocation to New York City, Zach was based in Indianapolis, IN, establishing himself as a staple performer in the Midwest jazz scene with frequent residencies and performances in clubs, festivals, and major venues in Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Chicago. A long-time collaborator of clarinetist and saxophonist Frank Glover, he performs on Frank's records Abacus, mīm, and Futureclef. Their work as a duo is documented in the American Public Television documentary Take Two. He is a graduate of Indiana University Bloomington's Jacobs School of Music, where he studied with Luke Gillespie and David Baker.
In both 2011 and 2015, Zach Lapidus was selected as one of five finalists nationally in the American Pianist Association's Jazz Competition. His playing has been featured on broadcasts of NPR’s Jazz Set with Dee Dee Bridgewater and Morning Edition, as well as on WBGO's Jazz Night in America with Christian McBride. His arranging work has been heard on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. As an educator, has taught masterclasses in piano and the electronic music software SuperCollider and Max/MSP at universities, festivals, and community music centers around the country.
