Makar Novikov is one of the most well-known double bass player in Russian jazz scene. Great accompanist and virtuoso soloist with beautiful sound, he was the partner of many famous jazz musicians, such as: Jimmy Cobb, Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath, Kenny Baron, James Spaulding, Lew Tabakin, Debora Brown, Jimmy Greene, Gene Jackson, Steve Slagle, Giacomo Gates, Craig Handy, Gary Smulyan, Alex Sipiagin, Gregory Hutchinson, Igor Butman and many others.In 2005 Makar, student of Moscow Gnesin Academy of Music, came to New York and participated in Open World Program at Thelonious Monk Institute. As a result, he played at the Blue Note Club with Clark Terry, Kenny Barron, Jimmy Heath and Lewis Nash.In 2008 he joined to famous Russian group, MosGorTrio. This is jazz trio of one of the best Russian piano player Yakov Okun and amazing Sasha Mashin on drums. At this trio Makar played a lot all around Russia with many great American musicians, such as Lew Tabackin, Deborah Brown, James Spaulding, and many others.Since that time, Makar performed at best jazz places and festivals all over the world, some of them are: Blue Note Jazz Club, Apollo theatre (New York), Ronnie Scott's jazz club (London), Duc de lambards (Paris), Montreux jazz festival (Switzerland) , Jazzkaar (Tallinn), Triumph of Jazz, Great Hall of the Moscow conservatory (Moscow)In 2013 Makar took part in famous Russian TV show "Big Jazz", and was the finalist of it, but he had to leave this show because of "The night in Apollo", big jazz festival in Apollo Theatre, New York.
