Guitarist Alex Wintz is quickly becoming a name in the international jazz community. At a young age he has already had the opportunity to perform across the country and around the world, including Europe, Asia, South America and major U.S. clubs including the Monterey Jazz Festival, The Montreal Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, NJPAC, The Knitting Factory, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, IAJE, Jazzschool, Smalls, Shanghai Jazz, DC Jazz Festival, and Ku'umbwa Arts Center.
Born in California and raised in New Jersey, Alex began playing guitar at an early age. Alex graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Berklee College of Music in May 2010 and completed his Masters degree from the Juilliard School in May 2012. Awards and recognition achieved include National Foundation of the Arts ARTS Award winner, Clifford Brown/Stan Getz Fellowship All Star, Most Outstanding Jazz Soloist in High School Category in the Downbeat Music Awards, Berklee Guitar Achievement Award, and Semi-Finalist in the Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition. Alex attended NJPAC’s Jazz for Teens program from 2001-2006 Current regular groups and collaborators include the Alex Wintz Trio, Wayne Tucker Quartet, Peter and Will Anderson Trio, Etienne Charles and Creole Soul, Ben Williams and Sound Effect, Dave Baron Quintet, Roxy Coss Quintet, Lucas Pino Nonet, and Nick Finzer Sextet.
