Alto saxophonist and composer Patrick Cornelius, whom the New York Times called “a self assured young saxophonist in the postmodern mainstream,” released his sixth album, While We're Still Young, on Whirlwind Recordings in 2016. Cornelius’ penchant for penning surprising, cathartic songs firmly rooted in the jazz tradition earned him the American Society of Composers and Performers' Young Jazz Composer Award three years in-a-row (2005-2007), and the 2012 New Jazz Works Commission by Chamber Music America. An perrenial fixture on the Downbeat Critics Poll, Cornelius has presented original music at international venues such as Ronnie Scott's, London Jazz Festival, The Blue Note, The Rubin Museum, Smalls, and The Jazz Gallery in New York. An active pedagogue, he is on faculty at Hunter College in NYC, The United Nations International School, and Snow College in Utah.
