Grammy nominated music veteran reed player Jay Rodriguez has played an important part in NYC’s sonic and creative tapestry. His pantheon of important musical contributions has been a part of the International music scene as a composer, arranger, and soloist for decades. He has brought his mastery and musical experiences to many genres and generations. He is a co-founder of NYC’s Groove Collective.
He has worked with Celia Cruz, Ray Barretto, Randy Brecker ,Eddie Palmieri , the Gil Evans Band , David Krakauer, Mike Clark, Giovanni Hidalgo ,Vernon Reid , Marshall Allen ,Craig Harris, Prince, Chucho Valdez, Chico and Arturo O’Farrill , Roy Nathanson , Wil Calhoun , Nona Hendryx ,Roy Hargrove, Bernie Worrell , Medeski , Martin and Wood, Marc Ribot ,The Wu- Tang Clan, Guru’s Jazzmatazz ,David Murray, David Krakauer, the Roots, Elvis Costello, Jason Miles, Teruo Nakamura, The Mingus Big Band, Miley Cyrus, Mike Snow and with iconic music producers Andrew Wyatt , and Gary Katz among many.
Solo works include “Your Sound “recorded live at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola @JALC.
Recorded and orchestrated for Craig Harris’s score for film director Shaka King’s Oscar winning “Judas and the Black Messiah “
Currently, Jay is part of the frontline for Iconic trombonist Fred Wesley and the New JB’s, carrying on the legacy of Pee Wee Ellis and Maceo Parker.
Released 2023 a new double volume solo record Muthaflower to critical acclaim.
